Wedding Centerpiece Ideas: Step Out of the Vase
If you’re one of those brides looking for an untraditional way of creating wedding reception centerpieces, or are least looking for a way to put your own twist on traditional centerpieces, here are some inspirational ideas to get you started.
Close your eyes for a moment and conjure up a vision of your wedding tables. What do you see? What items come to mind that may reflect your wedding theme or your personality better than the standard flower arrangement?

Mix and Match
|
Another rule you can break is that every centerpiece at every table has to match. Instead, create a different theme and a different centerpiece for each table. Overall, the table themes may have some common thread, but there isn’t a need for every centerpiece to look exactly the same.
For example, if you’re a couple that enjoys traveling, choose a travel theme as your overall theme. Then assign a destination theme to each table and create centerpieces out of items that represent the destination where you traveled together as a couple. Make each table a different theme and create centerpieces that go along with that theme.
Possible items:
-
Framed photo of you and your mate visiting the destination
-
Print a fact sheet about the destination on decorative paper, place it in a frame and put it on the table for guests to enjoy learning about the area
-
Use icons or items that represent the location. For example, a trip to New York may include a Statue of Liberty, a rosy red apple, a Yankee baseball pennant, etc.

Edible Centerpieces
|
Edible centerpieces are another big hit over traditional wedding centerpieces. Display individual wedding cakes on cake plates on each table. You can mix and match cake flavors and styles so each table offers a different sweet treat for guests to munch on after their meal.
For fall weddings, consider using colored gourds, squash and vegetables displayed in beautiful bowls or on platters. For spring or summer weddings, fruits and vegetable displays are also a big hit.
The one rule about wedding centerpieces is there isn’t a rule for wedding centerpieces. Use your imagination to come up with centerpiece ideas that relate to your wedding theme and your personality. While flower centerpieces may be what come to mind, there are plenty of other ways you can get the centerpieces of your dreams without a flower in sight.
